CAPT SERIES
AUSTRIA POKER TOUR 2011
- SERIES 4 STARTS NExT MONTH
One of the most popular national series of tournaments in Europe is that run by Casinos Austria which begins its fourth
season this coming January. Since it began in 2008 it has attracted a
growing number of players. Series 3 in 2010 saw 3,000 participants from thirty different nations and
prize money for the seven leg tour of over e6 million.
All the venues are easily accessible from neighbouring countries and all provide plenty to do outside of the poker action. The towns and cities are all great places to visit ranging from the lakeside holiday resort of Velden in the summer to the cultural and historic city of Salzburg in the spring. There is one change to the programme for the
coming year with the ski resort of Kitzbuhel, venue of the Austrian downhill ski race, replacing Graz for the sixth leg in August. Overall tournament director Edgar Stuchly
recognizes that there is more to life than poker lays on mid week players parties as part of the programmes.
The main event at each stop is a e2,000 buy-in
no limit hold’em freezeout. These are always played over the Saturday and Sunday of each tournament week to enable players who have jobs to take part. The final tables are broadcast live on the
Internet using new technology so that viewers can see the players’ cards. An added bonus for regular tour followers is
the e22,000 added by Casinos Austria for the CAPT Rankings. Points are awarded for finishing positions in all competitions with a buy-in of e500 or more. The winner at the end of the year receives a e4,000 seat for the grand final in Baden and three e2,000 seats for the main events the following year. Those finishing from second to 31st all win seats in a three table satellite at Baden with three e4,000 places in the Baden main event.
In 2010 Erich Friedmann beat Julian Herold
and Ronald Zapantis in the ranking for the “Best Overall Player.”

SPOTLIGHT ON THE CSINOS
LEG ONE -
CSINO SEEFELD January 14th - 23rd
Last year’s tournament in the mountain
ski resort of Seefeld turned out to be a spectacular curtain-raiser for the series with big fields for every event.
Even though the number of players was officially capped at 200 the organisers put in extra tables to accommodate everyone and 230 sat down for the e250 no limit hold’em. The other hold’em events attracted between 178 and 220 players. The main event was contested

by 192 hopefuls and German
Marco Meloni came out on top e96,680 richer. This year’s programme provides
some variety with a knockout bounty tournament and a e500 double chance Omaha event in the schedule. One of the player-friendly

an advance registration system which means that players can reserve seats for a deposit of 10 per cent of the buy-in price. This can be done online through the CAPT web site at
www.poker.casinos.at as can hotel bookings. At the end of January the skiing season will be in full swing so the more athletic poker players are well provided with off-table action. Seefeld has a big ski area with slopes for everyone from beginners to experts looking for adrenaline- inducing black runs. And of course along with skiing comes “après-ski” with the many bars and restaurants laying on music and dancing from 4.30 pm when the slopes close.
Because of Seefeld’s popularity
as a ski resort would-be players are advised to make hotel reservations as early as possible as rooms can become scarce.
