THE JOURNALIST CHALLENGE
I have been playing tournament poker for over ten years but whenever I have ventured into the world of cash poker I
have always come out the loser whether online or in the casinos. So when I was approached by the new training
website MyPokerLab to join in a journalist challenge, complete with bankroll and mentoring, I jumped at the chance.
DEVILFISHPOKER.COM by ELIZA BURNETT
Devilfish Gaming plc, the firm behind virtual poker room
Devilfish.com, has signed an agreement to sell its Devilfish Poker Limited online gambling subsidiary to an unnamed party for £330,000. The operator,
is my post flop aggression (I receive an A) - which is one key area that Jeff has improved on. My failings include lack of aggression on the river (causing my friend to comment that girls just can’t fire that third bullet...) and also I play far too many hands pre-flop. I justify this to Jeff saying that the six handed tables are rarely full which requires me to play a greater range of hands. The software scores me with an E, which feels more like school but I know it is accurate. After MyPokerLab has
The Challenge: I am up against two other journalists, Matt Perry (Bluff Europe) and Geoff Marsh (The Daily Star). We have until December 13th to complete 20,000 real money cash hands on
PokerTime.eu. Every day our accounts are reset with $200 and we must never sit down with more than 10 per cent of our daily limit. The winner (and their mentor) will receive a £1,000 UKIPT Package.
My mentor is a very jolly Welshman, Jeff
Burke, who has been working with Badbeat since its inception in 2004 and is now Head of International Mentoring. We have twice weekly sessions, via Skype,
where he watches me play, advises me on my betting technique and mainly discuss where I go wrong. In addition to the mentoring we also have
access to the MyPokerLab software which grades our performance. All our hands are monitored and my half-term appraisal shows my biggest strength
identified my weaknesses it directs me to tutorials that it thinks will help. These are nicely laid out, easy to follow and even have video examples. A lot of thought has been put into them and they are very detailed and provide great analysis.
In terms of my profit it all
started off rather well. Even playing the 10c/20c NLH tables I kept in the black for the first two sessions and then disaster struck. When you have lost more than 50 per cent of
your daily limit you are immediately alerted to ‘stop playing’ by the Badbeat Shift Manager. This has only happened to me three times in 30 days but still it is a mountain to climb at those levels when you incur such a hit. I have seen some very profitable days and some where only a few dollars get added to my total. We are only half way through and I am about $350 up so anything can happen. Jeff is expecting me to step it up and make some proper profit... but a lot can happen before December 13th!
Who's been a naughty boy then? Allegedly!
CHEATING SCANDAL IN FRANCE
As the final table sat down to play down to a winner at the final of the Partouche Poker Tour there was an empty seat at the felt as
WPT Barcelona winner Ali Tekintamgac was disqualified due to cheating allegations. After reviewing previous footage, tournament
directors discovered that Tekintamgac was cheating using the help of fake bloggers/reporters, who would look at his opponents’ hole cards and use hand signals to indicate hands. The German was also suspected of cheating earlier this year at EPT Tallinn and was asked to leave by tournament director Thomas Kremser. But it was Vanessa Selbst who took down the title
and €1.3 million after arriving at the final as chip leader and then beat Raphael Kroll heads up.
co-founded by English pro Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott, revealed that the deal will see it receive £40,000 in cash and the balance in an issue of new ordinary shares in an acquiring company that will be traded on the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market. The sale has not yet been completed and is
subject to satisfactory completion of due diligence and legal process.

WSOP TV AUDIENCE DOWN
The number of viewers tuning into the final table of the World Series of Poker fell by 30 per cent this year compared with last.
The programme was broadcast at the audience friendly time of 10pm on ESPN and was watched by just over 1.5 million people. Last year 2.2 million viewers tuned in. A three month break between the final table being reached and actually played was introduced three years ago to hype the programme – a ploy which worked to begin with but clearly not this time around.
