The Foundation Stage

The curriculum makes reference to the Foundation stage curriculum and is organised in the following areas: Personal and Social Development, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Physical Development and Creative Development.

Key Stage 1 & 2

Our exciting curriculum is especially enriched to make full use of our busy and diverse urban setting. Through thematic cross-curricular units we teach the full National curriculum and more. We teach the four core subjects of English, Maths, Science and Information and Communication Technology and the foundation subjects: Art, Design Technology, History, Geography, Music, Physical Education, Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship and Religious Education.

Key Stage 2 children also learn French. Teaching and Learning of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship are particular strengths of our school. Our curriculum focuses on the skills, values and attitudes and knowledge which will equip children to lead active and fulfilling lives in the 21st Century. Our commitment to and expertise in creativity are recognised through our Gold ArtsMark Award. For each subject there is a statement of policy and scheme of work which says what will be taught each year.

All classes from reception to year 6 have distinct and cross-curricular learning in literacy and numeracy each day. Children may be taught as a whole class, in smaller groups or on an individual basis. 13
