THE SCHOOL DAY AND LEAVE

Attendance and Punctuality

The School Day

The school starts at 9.00 am and finishes at 3.20 pm for EYFS and 3.30 pm for other children.

Lunchtime starts at:

11.30 am for nursery and reception 12.00 for Year 1 & 2 12.30 for Years 3 & 4 1.00pm for Years 5& 6

Lunchtime is one hour for all children. Lunch time is an important relaxation and socialisation time for children. Children remain in the dining room for up to 25 minutes and have playtime before or after. Playtimes are well structured, supported with high levels of staff and resourced with numerous activities.

Start of the Day

Children in the Centre for Early Learning (CEL) must be brought to class by their parent or carer. For children’s safety we insist that all children in CEL or KS1 are brought and collected by someone over 16 years old.

End of the Day

Parents and carers of children in CEL collect children from their classes and are welcome to wait in the hall until children are dispersed from class. Children in Years 1-6 are escorted down to the playgrounds for collection.

For children to progress it is vital that they attend school on time, every day. We aim for above 95% attendance for all children from nursery to year 6.

Parents have a legal responsibility to make sure this happens. We rely on parents’ support to make sure that children, especially the younger ones, get to school safely, regularly and on time.

Registers close 10 minutes after the start of each half-day session at 9.10 am and 1.25 pm. Any arrival after this time will still count as an absence.

We expect parents to let us know if their child is absent for any reason. Please write or speak to the teacher. We will decide whether the absence is authorised or unauthorised based on our ongoing work with you and your family.

If there are patterns of absence or punctuality issues you will be invited to meet our home-school link workers, or the Educational Social Worker, employed by Camden Local Authority in order to agree targets for improvement.

Extended Leave

The governors have agreed that no holiday will be authorised in term time and that only in the most exceptional circumstances will it be granted by the head teacher for other reasons. In these cases medical or other documents will be requested. All such instances MUST be discussed with the school office who will advise you.

Authorisation for exceptional leave will not be given if there are concerns about your child’s progress or: She/ he has already had leave within the academic year, or: Your child’s attendance is lower than 95% He/ she is in EYFS, year 2 or 6 (due to assessments)

Failure to keep to an agreed return date can mean that a child can lose their place in the school and the case will be referred immediately to the local authority to take action.
