Area 1 Hosts Celebrity Western Pleasure Charity “Lope for A Cure”

By Ashley Cook

Saturday evening, July 23rd exhibitors and spectators at the Ilderton Fair Grounds were treated to a special event night of star-gazing. Seventeen Cowboys and cowgirls alike prepped there horses and dressed to the nines at the Area 1 Quarter Horse Promotional Association’s Sunsational Sum- mer Circuit for a Celebrity Western Pleasure Charity “Lope for A Cure.”

Earlier Saturday, 2010 OQHA Queen Miss Lindsay Allen of London and myself began operation “Cancer Awareness Day.” As we approached spectators and exhibitors we asked them to wear yellow ribbons to support and spread awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society. It was great to see everyone participating including the show staff and judges, along with exhibitors showing with ribbons on their showmanship jackets, hunt coats, and saddle pads. As the day carried on and the entries poured in, Lind- say and I were both overwhelmed with the support from exhibitors, with a whopping seventeen entries we new that the “Lope for A Cure” Celebrity Western Pleasure was going to be a huge success.

At seven o’clock our Celebrities got their first call to the ring, with Ken McLellan announcing and several volun- teers in the booth we were ready to begin introduc- tions. Each Celebrity had there moment to shine as they were individually introduced making their entrance down the center of the pen at the jog, and of course to their own personalized theme music. Among our celebrities we were thrilled to have Amanda Thomson as Ellie Mae Clampett, Jim Thomson as John Belushi, Jasymn Rivait as Retro Barbie, Karlee Gowling as Dolly Parton, Mariah Robinson as Avril Lavigne, Joanne Lewylle as Cruella Deville, Jessica Hammer as Carrie Under- wood & Mike Fisher, Amanda Martini as Pebbles & Dino, Amy Trembath as Lady Ga Ga, Rick Fleet- wood as Kirstie Alley, Lauren Newhouse as Miley Cyrus, Kyra Shipley as Captine Jack Sparrow, Suzanne Pickard as Pink Lady, Russel Truesdell as the All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen, Elaine Vink as Ozzy Osbourne, Deb Pitel as Kate Plus 8, and Tammy Borrowes as Danica Patrick. All of our Celebrities did a fantastic job of staying in character and put on the most entertaining Western Pleasure class I had ever seen! After walk, jog, and loping around the pen all exhibitors went home with lots of prizes, and our top five received cash prizes as well. Congratulations to; 1st Place Jessica Hammer, of Wellesley, Starring as Carrie Underwood & Mike Fisher riding One Heluva Secret
