AUGUST 2010 THE RIDER /23 Whispering Hearts Open House Is Huge Success By Kelly Bowers
Whispering Hearts Horse rescue in Hagersville was bustling with activity on Sat. July 10th. Brenda and Dave held their 3rd annual open house under sunny warm friendly skies. Organizers were thankful that some of the recent humidity had abated and everyone was comfort- able and able to enjoy the day. Crowds of well wishers poured in all day from across southern ontario to say hello, support the rescue and meet the lovely horses. There was something for everyone with a
tack sale in the arena, a huge garage sale filling the front yard, raffles, a hat sale (can- cer drive) and cute animals to pet such as llamas, a lovely pig, miniature horse, and miniature donkey. Hungry guests enjoyed BBQ, prepared by the capable hands of Dave and his trusty assistants and a bake sale table brimming with colourful, yummy sweets. Tickets were purchased for lots of great door prizes donated by many wonderful individuals, families and busi- nesses such as Callaway Feeds who showed up with

several bags of shavings and horse feed. Owner, Kelly Call- away was accompanied by his children to enjoy the festivities. Kids smiled from ear to ear when they spotted the pony and
horse rides, which is a new activity for the annual event. The fun was provided by the kind folks at Big Creek Stables in Caledonia where they lead trail rides and run a horse day
camp in the summer for local children.
Everything was done by Brenda, Dave and their amazing volunteers so that all the proceeds could go to looking after all the beautiful horses lucky enough to be in the loving care of Whisper- ing Hearts Horse Rescue. The
day went so well that they dou- bled the money raised last year. Funds will be used to put in more stalls so they have room and won’t have to refuse shelter to any horse in need. Brenda and Dave extend their deepest appre- ciation to everyone who was involved in any way.

Windrush Stables Therapeutic Riding Centre Fundraiser A Success
Written by Sue Graci
Windrush Stables Therapeutic Riding Centre (WTRC) had its annual “Rockin’ Horse” fundraiser on Saturday, June 12, 2010. Live music, line dance lessons, a silent auction and a variety of fabulous food stations made the night a huge suc- cess.
Having the event on the farm allowed the horses to be the guests of honour. “There were a lot of comments on the venue - fabulous to actually see the horses and the location where the lessons take place. Having the horses receive awards made the whole event very real”, says Lesley Gauer, owner of the stable.
According to Les Barsony, Chair of the WTRC Board of Directors, “with the support of the local community for the silent auction, and our volunteers that help organize the event and set up and take down, this was certainly the most fun for all as we were all able to enjoy the dinner. Windrush looked great - again a tribute to all of our volunteers that are helping to continue to improve Windrush.”
