Forty-seven people turned out for the opening of Pearl’s Equine Boarding and Hoof Rehab Centre near Belleville, Ontario, on June 13th, 2010. The event featured a variety of eye-opening, untold stories, videos and photos on topics ranging from demonstrations of foundering, to pictures of unbe- lievable victory stories and demonstrations like how using a shoe restricts proper hoof mech- anism through frog contact, to the hidden dangers to the horse’s frogs through feeding grass, to explanations and illustrations of how abscesses hide themselves, to how hoofs grow at an incredi- ble rate without using the aid of man-made commercial products, and how high heels or an imbal- anced hoof can lead to deformed
coffin bones. Also demonstrated were the efficiency of slow hay feeders and floodable stalls to accommodate the need for wet hoofs.

Participants in the event were provided the opportunity to indicate how much they had gained from the event by com- pleting a brief “ballot” – the majority responded with com- ments ranging from “Unbeliev- able set up of the barn,” to “Great job!” to “Yes, we learned a lot.”
All in all the event was a roaring success with a lot of horse savvy being exchanged.
