Curras finishes second in chef challenge

sine finished second Saturday (Aug. 14) in a competition to find the best culinary concoction in the area. WNC Magazine’s Asheville
Wine and Food Festival featured several events, including a WNC Chefs’ Challenge, a summer-long head-to-head competition which culminated in Saturday’s show- down between Woodfin-based eat- ery Curras and the Dining Room Inn at Biltmore Estate. Each Tuesday from May 18-Aug.
3, the area’s best chefs paired off in the inaugural head-to-head compe- titions at Te Flying Frog Café in Asheville. Each chef and his team were given a secret ingredient to be featured in their culinary creations.
Sweet potatoes, mountain trout, honey, coffee, onions and many other local food items were inspira- tions for the cooks. Diners decided the winning team
each week using the same guide- lines as a professional food critic. Each chef ’s team presented three culinary creations and the audience scored the dishes to determine who advanced to the next round. In Curras’ Aug. 3 victory against
