By Matt Tate No more basement living for the
Woodfin Public Works Department. Town aldermen approved the pur-
chase of a little more than two acres on Taylor Street for $325,000 to move the public works department from the lower level of the Woodfin Community Center. Woodfin Town Administrator Ja-
son Young said he hopes the depart- ment will be in its new offices by the end of the year. Some modifications to the existing infrastructure there will be needed, but nothing that will slow down the moving process, he said. Te public works facility has been
at the community center since 2006 ever since moving from the spot on Weaverville Road now occupied by the town’s ABC store. Officials had been looking at find-
ing a larger public works facility for some time. Cooper Enterprises is re- shuffling its business and made the space available to the town. In other news during Tuesday’s
(Aug. 17) meeting, Woodfin copiers Vivid Image named Michael Salley its Officer of the Year for 2010. Sal- ley has been with the department for four years. “I’ve seen him breaking that
boundary from rookie police officer to seasoned veteran,” said Woodfin Police Chief Brett Holloman. Fellow officers selected Salley for the honor, and several local businesses, includ- ing Curras Nuevo Cuisine, Bellagio Bistro, Frank’s Roman Pizza and others, donated gift certificates to the award. Aldermen also accepted Forest
Drive, near Sunny Ridge Drive, into the town’s municipal system.
