Photographer Patrick Cavan Brown snaps images of Weaverville.
By Matt Tate Longtime residents will say
Weaverville has emerged from Asheville’s shadow in the last de- cade or so, standing on its own as a unique, vibrant community. Te transformation process re-
cently grabbed the attention of a prominent state publication. Our State magazine profiles
Weaverville in its September edi- tion with an in-depth piece about how the area’s locally owned busi- nesses are adding to the town’s sustainability. Author Kent Priestley interviews
Mangum Pottery owners Rob and Beth Mangum, as well as Shope’s Furniture owner Scott Shope and
developer Lou Accornero. Pictures of Rodney’s Auto Ser-
vice owner Rodney Edwards, Tri- bune paperboy Reagan Parker and Main Street also highlight the piece.
Accornero said he was very
pleased with the article and not- ed how much time photographer Patrick Cavan Brown spent snap- ping images of the old fire station Accornero is restoring.
Drug awareness seminar Te Weaverville Police Department will hold its first annual drug aware-
ness seminar beginning at 6 pm on Aug. 26 at the community room at Weaverville Town Hall. Te officers will speak about several different aspects of illegal drugs and
the effect they have on people and the community. Tey will cover how to identify illegal drugs in the home or workplace and ways to identify potential drug users and how to help them. A question and answer session will also be included. Call Sgt. Stacy Wyatt or Andy Mace at 645-5700 with any questions.
