Judge Black NACo’s new- est Arkansas panelist; Mary Louise Williams retiring Montgomery County Judge Alvin

Black is the newest member of NACo’s Public Lands Steering Committee. He received confirmation of the appointment from the National Association of Counties in late September. “Judge Black has done

Hon. Alvin Black Montgomery Co. Judge

a great job of representing Montgomery County and the state at a national level,” said Chris Villines, AAC Executive Director. “The percentage of public lands acreage in his county is in the top five in Arkansas. It

is important for the Public Lands Steering Committee to hear how decisions regard- ing federal forests and the funding that impacts counties where they reside affects

the counties of Arkansas. I congratulate Judge Black on the wonderful opportunity to be a part of this process by his appoint- ment to the committee.”

While Judge Black is starting his repre- sentation, longtime NACo representative Mary Louise Williams is concluding her period of service. The Pulaski County

Justice of the Peace chairs the Arts and Culture Commission, and is a member of the NACo Board of Directors and of the Human Services and Education Steering Committee. “Mary Louise Williams has been a great ambassador for the arts and for good govern- ment through her position as Pulaski County Justice of the Peace,” said Villines. “However, she never considered central Arkansas as a limiting fac- tor. Her influence extends far beyond Little Rock, as evi-

denced by the many positions she has been appointed to nationally. Her retirement from several NACo positions leaves a void that will never be replaced by someone as esteemed as Mrs. Williams. We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors and know that we will partner again in dif- ferent ways.”
