INDULGENCES performologyby david vera

The Rage Monthly: Where were you born and raised? Grant: I was born in Orange County and raised right here in SD…living in

Grant

Mission Bay was an amazing experience—laying out at the beach during lunch break at school is pretty unique. Rage: When did you discover your talent for dancing? Grant: When I was 16 my boyfriend was 23 and I started using his ID to get into

OF THE GOGO KINGS AN SD CREW PRODUCTION

the clubs out here from the get-go. I may be a big white boy, but I’ve always had rhythm and love to use it! Rage: When did you become part of The GoGo Kings dance troupe? Grant: Just like my fellow GoGo Kings, I have been dancing independently a while until we realized the need for something more in the male go-go scene. The idea of bringing the best in the business under one name and one night came to us about six months ago. Rage: What do you enjoy most about being part of this group? Grant: It goes back to what sets us apart as The GoGo Kings—these guys

have kick-ass personalities on top of killer bodies…and I can truly call them my friends.

Rage: Is there a mix of gay and straight among your fellow dancers? Grant: Our guys definitely come from both sides of the fence but share the all-important trait of loving to help people have a great time. Rage: Can you share with us one particularly funny or memorable instance you’ve had while dancing? Grant: I was dancing on the corner of the bar once, in my zone having a blast.

And as I turned around in one of my moves, I stepped off the bar and I walked right off the edge of a four-foot ledge in front of a crowd of people and played it off like, “Just jumping down to take a break in the back. Nothing to see here!” The unexpected is inevitable at clubs, it’s all part of the fun. Rage: Do you have a signature dance move that you’ve invented? Grant: I may be six-foot-four and white, but I’ve got some weight in the back.

So there’s a kind of “pop and lock” I do with shifting my butt from side to side that has become a bit of a trademark; you need to just come out and see it for yourself! Ha!

Rage: Being a dancer sounds like a lot of fun. But when you’re not getting down with your group, what kinds of things can you be seen doing to relax? Grant: Gym time is my reset button on life, it keeps me sane. I work out five

times a week at a CrossFit gym, which—if you ever get to try—is addictive and a complete crusher of a workout. I’m also a Philosophy major. So with being a full-time student, relaxation time is also study time. Rage: If your fellow dancers could describe you in one word, what would that be? Grant: “Shy”...Hahaha. Probably something more along the lines of, “Manimal!” Rage: What is one thing a stranger would never know about you unless they asked you? Grant: Aside from my Philosophy major, how about that my dog’s name is

Emilio Neil Lance Jay

Howard Roark after an Ayn Rand novel. It’s everyone’s homework now to find out why it’s Howard. Rage: When and where can we find you guys hitting the floor? Grant: We have dates in Vegas and Hollywood coming up, just look for The

GoGo Kings promotion at your club. And if we’re not there soon enough for you, request us! At home in San Diego we’ll be at Bourbon St. and Rich’s as much as possible outside of our travel schedule. We love it here! Rage: For those who have not yet seen The GoGo Kings perform, what would you say we’ve been missing? Grant: Everyone has seen a bunch of good-lookin’ dudes dance around, but

what we bring with personality, interaction and genuine camaraderie really makes the show a first in the scene out here. These guys are good at what they do, not just because they like dancing, but because they truly get-off on making everyone’s night something that stands out amongst the rest and a flat-out ball; we’re having a blast and want you to be having one too!
