Equality Torch Relay Presented by San Diego Pride
Join the many who call for LGBT eual- Second Annual Red Ribbon Dance Project
For a night of quality dance performances, gourmet appetizers, fine wine and a wide variety of non-alcoholic drinks, join the festivities on Thursday, October 7 from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. at The Abbey in San Diego. The annual event will also include a silent auction with the opportunity to win gift cer- tificates to dine out and the opportunity to win high-end accommodations, along with beautiful jewelry and more being part of the silent auction. Enjoy the skilled talent of performances choreographed by the Butterworth Dance Company, La Diego Dance Theatre and Anjanette Maraya. The Equality Torch Relay theme is “Unite, Inspire, Change” and the relay also acknowledges National Coming Out Day, which is the next day. Those participating will set out on their routes beginning at 8:30 A.M. with a clos- ing ceremony at 1:30-3:00 P.M. at the LGBT Center. Speaking at the closing ceremony will be Linda Perine with the HRC, Nicole Murray-Ramirez, activist, Aaron Bruce, director of diversity at San Diego State and other notable members of our community. Routes will include San Diego’s eight city districts and the incorporated cities of North County, East County and South Bay. Malashock Thinks You Can Dance! This one night dance-off put together by Malashock Dance Company is on
Saturday, October 9 at 6:00 P.M. with competition beginning at 8:00P.M. and will raise money for youth arts education. The fundraiser takes place at The Birch North Park Theatre as local celebrities pair off with professional dancers. The audience will determine the vote for the winners after the competition. Among the local celebrities attending will be Mayor Jerry Sanders and come- dian emcee Monique Marvez along with SD Asian Film Foundation Executive Director Lee Ann Kim and others. It’s Time for The La Jolla Art and Wine Festival!
The festival in its second year promises to be just as entertaining and visual- ly stunning as the 2009 event. The festival takes place on upper Girard Avenue between Pearl and Genter and at the La Jolla Elementary School playground on October 9 and 10. Funds provided by the festival go to local La Jolla el- ementary schools and last year returned nearly $40,000 to area schools. Event admission is $15 for a two-day pass and $10 for adults, children get in for $5 and military and seniors receive free admission. Getting an early jump on your Christmas shopping?
