Welcome to Arroyo’s Arroyo’s Lounge is open for business at the Old Globe. Featuring the script of Pulitzer

Prize-finalist Kristoffer Diaz, Welcome to Arroyo’s pulls in a Greek chorus (two hip hop DJs) to literally spin the tale of a brother and sister’s search for their respective places in the world after the death of their mother. Their struggle to move forward is made even more uncertain as they discover what might be a secret about their mother that could change the very foundation of their lives and, possibly, the history of hip hop music. Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto says, “Kristoffer Diaz is an important new

playwright who is achieving great success reaching audiences of all ages and back- grounds. We will present Welcome to Arroyo’s at the Globe and then the production will travel to Lincoln High School. Between both venues, thousands of high school students will experience the show alongside our adult audiences. It is my greatest wish that our collective shared experience with this play will in some way connect us with each other.” Welcome to Arroyo’s runs now - October 31 at the Old Globe. Lotus Theatre : True West Directed by Sophia A. Ziebell, True West might be called a dark comedy. It’s

hard to categorize, but it’s the perfect little place to be the Saturday before Hal- loween. And their offering prizes and ask that you come in costume. The play is a tale of two modern day adult brothers trying to survive. One as a playwright, one as a thief. Expect some violence, some voyeurism and some pop culture all mixed into one unique Sam Shepard play. And if the name sounds familiar, you know him better as an actor and long-time partner of Jessica Lange. True West runs Saturday, October 30 – November 20 at the Urban Grind in Hillcrest. For tickets and more information contact 619.299.4763.

GAM3RS Featuring all talent from our local Gayberhood, GAM3RS is the one-man

play about love, life in a cubicle and elves. It’s the story of “Steve,” a harried and hilarious tech support operator who has to juggle phone calls, an irate girl- friend, an angry mother, a micro-managing boss, and a smelly cubicle-mate while trying to save the world from destruction at the claws of evil elves. The play’s co-author is Hillcrest resident Walter Meyer, an active member of the gay community. His gay novel, Rounding Third, was nominated for a Lambda Literary Award, was a finalist for a San Diego Book Award and has also been receiving great reviews. His co-writer and star of the play, Brian Bielawski is also no stranger to Hill-

crest. He lived in Normal Heights and was a personal trainer at Powerhouse Gym. While Bielawski was getting his Masters in Fine Arts from the Univer- sity of San Diego, he worked steadily as part of the acting company of the Old Globe in Balboa Park, as well as performing in productions at USD. He went on to New York, where he stared in off-Broadway productions and had a recurring role on the soap opera, Guiding Light. Bielawski is originally from the suburbs of Chicago. Now he is ready to present a show of totally awesomeness to you and all your GAM3R friends. GAM3RS runs October 10 – 24 at Mo’olelo Theater. For tickets and more information call 858.224.2553
