rage notes “HELLO AGAIN…Hello”
Where have I been the past month? Why! That’s a secret. (hush, hush, confidential). I wish I could tell you I was doing something glamorous like slicing meat for Lady GaGa’s Video Music Award dress or hanging with Madonna while she directs her new film in London…but I can’t. We’ll leave it at that. So, where were we? What’s no secret is that in my absence, David Vera acting as Interim Editor did a super job…all the
guys in charge did too. It’s October now and the summer went by in the blink of an eye. The average person blinks their eyes 11,500 times a day but it still feels like summer if you ask me. Let’s go into the trick or treat bag and pull out the goods for the October edition of The Rage Monthly. Celebrating its 35th anniversary as a cult phenomenon is the classic comedy musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show. After
Barry Bostwick hosted a special anniversary screening in Los Angeles, I rang up the film’s star to talk about all things “Rocky” and in the meantime, he shared some exciting career news about appearing on none other than a “Rocky-inspired” episode of GLEE. No star ego here, just a genuinely nice actor who has had more than his share of career success. Read all about it on page 32. Now we go from comical remembrances of Rocky Horror to Howl. No…this isn’t the latest werewolf flick. It’s a highly
praised and intricate look at poet and writer, Alan Ginsberg and his revered composition called “Howl.” Filmmakers, directors and writers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman spoke with The Rage Monthly about the complexity and intellect of Ginsberg and gave great depth into creating this feature film on page 36. What could be more inviting than a trip to Hawaii right now…all expenses paid of course? Can’t fit the trip in your schedule? Just dream along on page 40 with our handsome models as they hit the islands. Kristine W. is known for her amazing success on the Billboard Dance/Club charts. Her voice, musicianship and beauty
have created a lasting talent in the days of fads and fast-fading singers. She branches out with her creativity and has just released a purely Jazz double CD recording. Titled Straight Up With a Twist, she really has found another field of music to explore and the CD is excellent and a must for fans of Kristine and the genre of Jazz. Catch up with one of my favorite artists on page 48. “You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!” If those lyrics bring to mind the beloved classic of American cinema and theatre
called Peter Pan…you are right on track. The Orange County Performing Arts Center presents the ONLY Southern California presentation of Peter Pan beginning this month. Read our interview with Arthur Wilson, who landed the role of John Darling on page 52. Last, but definitely not least in our bag of treats for October is
the vivacious entertainer, Mary Murphy. Her natural exuberance and dancing skills will invigorate the San Diego Civic Theatre in the Broadway touring production of Burn the Floor. She is definitely, “one hot tamale.” Read more on page 54. Well…I’m off to get my costume ready for Bette Midler’s
Annual Hulaween Gala. “You got to have friends!” Right? Have an outrageous October and a happening Halloween.
