DAISY’S HOT BOX Tosh.0

I can’t believe that it is October already. What happened to summer? They say time flies when you’re having fun, so these last few months must have been a blast. I just hope that’s all it is and not a sign of too much partying. Sometimes memories from previous evenings get a little hazy but I’ve never blacked out a whole evening let alone a whole summer. At least September was a memorable month, filled with cowboys, birthdays, community events, and theme parks. I kicked off my September wearing cowboy boots and a big belt buckle to get

into the spirit of the 2010 Gay Rodeo. It was fabulous to be surrounded by all the hot cowboys in their Wrangler jeans that left nothing to the imagination. That weekend was extra special because my friends and I also celebrated my sister Jes- sica’s birthday. All in all, it was a great weekend, and I’m still cleaning the hay out of my carpet... and no, that’s not a double entendre so get your mind out of the gutter. One of the few things I like more than shopping for new shoes and clothes, is a

good roller coaster ride. I love theme parks and their rides and I love LGBT parties too, so naturally I couldn’t miss the Out at the Mountain. It was great to see all the queer boys and girls on a special night just for us. I danced and partied and rode rides all night long. If you weren’t able to make it to magic mountain, then be sure to head up north Oct 1-3 for Gay Days Anaheim at Disneyland. My last big event in September was of course AIDS Walk 2010. I was sporting some new pink athletic shoes as I participated in the walk. It’s always a great experience to see so many people come out and support the cause by walking

to raise money and awareness. The walk is also good for making a girl think about having fewer cocktails and doing more exercising to get in better shape. As much fun as September was, October will be even more exciting. I love dressing up in elaborate costumes and makeup, you might say it is an every day occurrence with me, but October is when we get to kick our community’s imagination and creativ- ity into overdrive. Of course October is more than just sexy monster and hot ghouls and happening

on October 10, one of my favorite restaurants is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Lotus Thai will be throwing a customer appreciation party from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. to thank all the folks who have made this restaurant a Hillcrest favorite. Next on October 16, the staff at Bacchus will host the 9th annual Turnabout

event. Check it out as all your favorite bar staff dresses up in drag. Bacchus has some of the manly guys behind the bar, but for this one night they will all get glammed up in order to help raise funds for the Center’s Latin Services. The show takes place at 9:30 p.m., so be sure to bring a bunch of extra $1s for tips. Of course, the big event in October is Halloween also known as the gay high holiday. Halloween weekend’s big event of course, is the annual Nightmare on Normal Street on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. This block party is a great way to mingle and party with the community and get your Halloween started with a bang. The highlight of the event is the costume contest. Let’s face it, nobody can do over-the-top, outrageous costumes, like our community! Many of my friends are already planning their costumes. Aaron Pulido is get-

ting a group together to dress up as a group of toys; John Bilow is planning yet another superhero costume; and as for me... well, I am going to have to get cracking to come up with something that is at least as creative as my friends’ costumes. Some of my friends and I are tossing around the idea of being sexy Disney Princesses, but I also just saw the cutest pussycat outfits at my favorite boutique, Louigi Vera. This may be one of those years where I end up putting together a different outfit for each night of the weekend. Whether you’re picking up tricks or treats that weekend, remember to have fun but be safe. Don’t take candy from any strangers, and remember that just because he’s dressed as Prince Charming, that doesn’t mean he isn’t really just an old troll.
