Women’s Wellness Retreat Offered in October
S
Self-Defense Classes in Glastonbury
ealthtrax Fitness and Wellness Center in Glastonbury is running a series of self-defense classes for both mem- bers and non-members in November. There are two classes to choose from: Friday, November 5,
H
6–8pm, or Saturday, November 6, 11:30am-1:30pm. The cost of admission is a $10 donation, which will benefit The House of Bread in Hartford. Instruction will include how to use your intuition and
common sense in unsafe situations. There will also be hands- on instruction and techniques for breaking an attacker’s grasp and getting away, so participants should wear workout attire. The series will be led by highly credentialed karate instruc- tor Tom Hine. Tom holds a 4th
degree black belt in Shotokan
Karate, awarded to him by the Japan Karate Association. He has trained continuously for more than 25 years and currently serves as an Assistant Instructor at the University of Connecticut Karate Club. Having the knowledge and ability to protect yourself from
anyone who might intend to cause you physical harm are skills that no person should be without. By being prepared, you can decide on the appropriate action to remove yourself from a potentially dangerous situation. This can be as simple as rec- ognizing a threat and practicing avoidance techniques, such as walking toward a more crowded area or, in more serious situations, applying forceful resistance. There is no uniform approach to self-defense that will work
under all circumstances, but by being proactive and improv- ing your knowledge and ability you gain a better chance of keeping yourself safe.
To register for one of the self-defense classes, contact Healthtrax at 860-652-7066. Healthtrax is located at 628 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, CT. See ad on page 19.

this fall, The Create Your Perfect Day™ Retreat will offer a select
group of women the opportunity to come together to learn practical tools and strategies for choosing joy and creating an overall sense of wellbeing. The retreat will be held Friday evening, October 29, through Sunday afternoon, October 31, at the Simsbury Inn. The retreat is based on Ellen Palmer’s Create Your Perfect
Day™ coaching program philosophy that, for many, life is an unopened gift. When we take the time to truly understand who we are and what we need, we find true health and happiness inside. As a participant, you will learn how to understand and cel-
ebrate who you are and why you make the choices you do, find the tools to make yourself a priority, experience body changing exercise through natural movement, turn food into a powerful ally, and integrate self-care for joy and balance. Admission is $795, which includes lodging for two nights,
