SPOTLIGHT
Rage: Since you were in Fiddler on the Roof with Lea Michele – is there any chance we might get to see you on Glee? HS: I would love that! I love the show. Lea’s a friend, Mat- thew Morrison’s a friend, Kristin Chenoweth’s a friend and she was a hilarious guest star last season. “We’ll see what happens” is probably the best answer I could say, but it would be a dream.
Rage: You’ve been called “a tight little ball of spunk, bad ass, and class,” but what other way would you describe yourself? HS: It’s hard to answer that question without sounding
terribly pretentious (laughter), but I like that quote a lot because I feel there’s a lot of humor in it. I would say that I’m a genuinely sweet person. I can be bad ass when I need to be, but I feel that we are all here on this Earth to do as much positive, forward movement as possible. I feel like I, with the rest of the world, am going through a huge evolution, which is really exciting.
Rage: What has your experience as an out entertainer been like? HS: It’s been incredibly positive! Most of the time it’s not
even an issue at all. And if it is, it’s usually something that’s positive. I have people, like a kid or a teenager, sending me messages on Facebook saying, “I’m gay and I’m coming out and you’ve helped me,” or “People like you are helping me.” So in that sense, that’s been really good because, ulti-
mately, I’m just myself and [gay] is not who I am, it’s just one facet. I feel that anyone, no matter what field they are in, can live their life honestly; it’s going to have a good result.

WHAT IS CURRENTLY ON HEAVY ROTATION ON HAVILAND’S iPOD?
Renée Fleming:
“She’s an opera singer, but her new album, A Dark Hope, is all indie pop music, mostly
covers, and it’s really good! It’s been blowing my mind since the day it came out.”
David Bowie: “I love David Bowie and I’m
into his whole Ziggy Stardust album right now.”
Klaatu: “I just recently started
getting into this really random band called Klaatu. They came out in the ’70s and they’re super obscure, but they have awesome songs.”
Sophie B. Hawkins: “There’s a really great song
that she wrote for the BP oil disaster called “The Land, The Sea, and The Sky,” and all of the proceeds go toward the cleanup of the oil. I think that’s great what she did, and I really enjoy the song.”
Melissa Etheridge: “To keep it super gay, but also what we were talking about with being evolution- ary, I love Melissa Etheridge! I love her new album, Fearless Love, so I’ve been listening to that a lot. She’s a great example of someone who
really speaks from her heart, and is always changing.”
