Bicycle Friendly Community Program Launches in Canada Through the generous support of the One World Two Wheels project by Trek Bicycles and the League of American Bicyclists, the Bicycle Trade Association of Canada and the Share the Road Coalition have launched a Canadian version of the very successful Bicycle Friendly Community Program. Launched just a month ago in Ontario, the BFC program will be responsible for handling applications for, and awarding communities who meet the specific criteria, with Bicycle Friendly Community status. The status levels are Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze, and they require a community to have a very coordinated effort to succeed.“This program is truly a giant step for cycling in Canada, as the process puts the effort on a community to work together to build a compressive cycling plan for their community.Over 300 communities, regions and states in the USA have applied and we expect similar numbers in Canada within the next five years,” stated Janet O’Connell BTAC Executive Director.
