HILLCREST CITYFEST 2010 For nearly as long as some of us have been alive, Hillcrest CityFest has celebrated local
music, arts, crafts and food, attracting more than 150,000 in recent years. On August 8 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., countless games, 250 vendors, live headliner music, a beer garden and much more await guests of this joyous institution. 1940 was when the neon Hillcrest sign was hoisted up for the first time. As decades
passed, the sign became worn and eventually went dark. In 1983 it was temporarily taken down until volunteers raised $4,000 for its restoration. A year later the sign was returned to its rightful spot over University Avenue at Fifth Avenue—the unofficial start of CityFest. Since then, the iconic sign has been symbolicaly “relighted” before thousands of eager San Diegans in awe. For a full musical lineup or a pop-out map of the CityFest layout along 5th
Avenue, University Avenue, Robinson Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue, visit
hillcrestcityfest.com. Admission is always free.
FOURTH ANNUAL TOAST TO HILLCREST As historic as the Hillcrest area is, we’re still young enough to know how to throw a
good party! The Hillcrest History Guild (HHG) will be celebrating its fourth annual Toast to Hillcrest on Thursday, August 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This 21-and-over-only event gathers dozens of local cocktail lounges, restaurants,
