cial for Riverside Baptist, as it celebrates its centennial year of ministry. RBC has met at its property on Riverside Drive since it originally began in 1911. Its current sanctuary was built in 1957, with a parsonage and educational facility added in the early 1970s. The church is presently in the middle of construction of a new worship center as well. John Honeycutt and his wife

Sonya have been serving at RBC since 1993. Originally from Le- icester, Honeycutt retired from Progress Energy in 1996 and became full-time pastor at that time. “The sun really never sets on mission work here,” Honey- cutt said. RBC church members are very involved in local out- reach, including New Direction Ministries in Madison County and the Buncombe County pris- on ministry. They also take the biblical call to aid the poor very seriously. The RBC food pan-

try helps feed over 120 people on average twice each month. “World missions are also very important to us,” said Honey- cutt. “We support numerous Christian missions around the world, including missionaries in Mexico and the Philippines.” Direct ministry to children

has been an important focus of RBC for many years. In 1998, Riverside Baptist opened its doors to the children of our community through its ‘Lil Lambs Daycare. This program provides quality care for chil- dren from birth to five years old. With more space made available in the months to come, future plans include a Christian acad- emy for students up through the eighth grade. Over the past year, RBC has

also started a Teen Church. This Sunday morning program is home to over 50 teens each week ranging in age from 13 to 19 years old. Children’s Church is also available. On Wednes- day nights, RBC reaches out to community children again through their craft program. The church vans pick up area kids for a free meal, fun crafts and Christian discipleship. Isaiah 56 the Bible tells us to ‘cry out to God’. We need to all call out to Him for guidance and in repentance.” Honeycutt continued, “The Word of God is an instruction book for ev- eryone, no matter what! Prov- erbs tells us that ‘without vision people perish.’ We must keep our focus on God’s will and His Word, rather than on all of the countless things and distrac- tions around us.” For more information about
