If you build it, will they come? Tat’s a question facing the

Weaverville Town Council. Te downtrodden economy has

put the brakes of much economic development the last two years and Weaverville certainly isn’t an excep- tion. At least one councilman wants to

poise Weaverville as an attractive option for businesses and industries looking for new or relocated devel- opment. One of those paths could be

building a revamped Web site. Councilman Doug Jackson said

the Web site, weavervillenc.org, is a cold, statistical site that does not

profile the town properly. “It doesn’t really tell you any-

thing about the town,” he said. He suggested the town use the Web site to highlight its businesses, achieve- ments and atmosphere. Anne-Marie Dany, proprietor of

myweaverville.com, said the site is in need of tweaks and plans to work with the town on updates in the coming weeks. A dilemma facing any economic

development is whether the town can handle the potential infrastruc- ture costs and issues a new industry would bring to Weaverville. Weaverville Town Manager Mike

Morgan said it is important for a town to know its niche, take care of its established businesses and then grow from there, if desired.
