munity is certainly rich in Chris- tian heritage. Flat Creek Baptist Church is the third oldest Baptist church in Buncombe County, dat- ing back nearly 200 years. In June 1811, a small group of Christian believers offi cially began FCBC under the leadership of the Rev. Stephen Morgan. According to records, the church constructed its fi rst meeting house in the 1850s. FCBC hosted the fi rst organized annual session of the Buncombe County Association in September 1882. It was six years later that the church purchased its nine-acre property. In June 1889, services were held in the new FCBC building for the fi rst time. T e construction of the existing FCBC brick sanctuary dates back to 1947, while the fellowship hall was constructed in 1985. Pastor Barry Fisher and his wife
Tracy have been at Flat Creek since 2006. Fisher grew up in Candler and attended Fruitland Bible College following his gradu- ation from Enka High School. He served as pastor at both Mills Gap Baptist and South Buncombe Baptist Church prior to coming to FCBC. Fisher is passionate about reach-

redefi ne our idea of love,” he ex- plained. “It’s not just giving gifts. It is about the willingness to sacri- fi ce. Jesus gave a perfect sacrifi ce for us out of His love. Often times our love can be irritable and rude. But God’s love is patient and is willing to look past the faults of others. We desperately need more of His love in our world.” FCBC is actively involved in nu-
merous local ministries such as the WNC Rescue Mission, New Di- rection Ministries, the Flat Creek Food Closet and the North Bun- combe Samaritan Ministries. It is also supportive of Louder than Words, a missions outreach to or- phans in Honduras. One outreach of FCBC is its weekly van minis- try. “Every Wednesday night, we pick up between 20 and 30 area teenagers that would not be able to attend church otherwise,” Fish- er said. “T ese teens are given a free meal and participate in vari- ous discipleship activities. “God expects us to reach out to people regardless of their income level. Everyone is important to Him and they should be to each of us as well.” FCBC off ers traditional and
blended worship services on Sun- day mornings, with family wor- ship held on Sunday evenings and Bible study on Wednesday nights. For more information about Flat Creek Baptist Church, go to fl at-
