Adult Residential Care Facility Opens
P
remium Residential Care Facility, a board-and-care facil- ity for the elderly inside a 2,800-square-foot home in San
Marcos, opened in August. The facility has a large, fenced private yard and plenty of living space. Owner Felicia Sheerman is an occupational therapy assistant with 15 years of geriatric rehabilitation ex- perience. She explains her mission for the facility: “Throughout my career, I have focused on geriatric care and worked in skilled nursing facilities and home health settings. Occupa- tional therapists help prevent existing
conditions from getting worse. We promote independence and help maximize the quality of life for individuals. For 15 years, I’ve dreamed of opening up my own residential facility. As the administrator here, it is my goal to pass on my skills to employees, residents and family members, and to provide a safe and pleasant environment.”

Three Waves a Day Offers Conscious Entertainment
T
hree Waves a Day, an interactive musical event created to promote, support and expand the three waves of surf,
yoga and music, will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight, August 24, at Belly Up Tavern, in Solana Beach. The brainchild of Chad Scott, a yoga teacher, surfer and
musician who wanted to use his music as a vehicle to intro- duce people to higher-level life experiences, Three Waves a Day is an ongoing tour throughout the western United States. The event combines the efforts of positive musicians, local yoga studios, surf vendors, health food vendors and organizations with similar missions geared towards active and healthy lifestyles. It features Shaka Baku, a local band whose lead singer is a 15-year yogi who combines yoga, surf and music in his performances. In addition to music, Three Waves a Day features a meet- and-greet session between band performances, with oppor- tunities to learn about and meet people from the surfing and yoga communitiy and enter a raffle to win free yoga classes and surf gear. All raffle proceeds are donated to charities that support surfing and/or yoga, including the Mauli Ola Foun- dation for cystic fibrosis.

Sudbury School Meetup Group A
Sudbury School meetup group is creating a school in the San Diego area for children ages 4 to 18. The school will be based on the Sudbury Valley School model (SudVal. org), which provides an excellent model for education in the 21st century, allowing each child to become fully who they uniquely are, in the context of a working democracy. Students are provided with the milieu to grow, explore and create, without the constraints of many other education- al systems. As a result, they may become self-reliant, self- motivated, self-confident, resilient and creative. Pupils also learn the benefits and discipline of democracy first-hand. “Having been involved in education for more than 20

years, I have never found a better model for bringing out the unique and brilliant qualities in a student,” says meetup group co-organizer, Alexandra DiMarco. “I am excited to see how we can create such a school in San Diego, because when students leave a Sudbury school, they are the type of leaders we need for our future world.”
