NEW ENGLAND OLYMPIANS AND BODE’S MEDALS SHINE AT THE NEW ENGLAND SKI MUSEUM

The Cannon Mountain Tramway was busy carry- ing summer vacationers to Franconia Notch State Park’s Cannon Mountain summit, elevation 4,100 feet. Just a few feet north of the Tram building is the home of the New England Ski Museum. International flags of

great skiing nations flap in the breeze, an origi- nal red tramcar and a Mount Cranmore skimo- bile sit outside the Mu- seum’s gray building. The Museum is dwarfed by the Tram house and may appear small but there are big things inside that shouldn’t be missed this summer. The New England Ski Museum recently opened a new exhibition, Five Rings, Six States: New England Skiers in the Win- ter Olympics, profiles the

contributions of many Winter Olympians from the region in every Olym- piad from 1924 through this year’s Vancouver Games. The trophy case filled

wi th gorgeous si lver awards is also now hous- ing all five of Bode Miller’s Olympic medals. He won two silver medals in the 2002 Salt Lake Games and he won a medal of every color, bronze, silver and gold, at last winter’s Vancouver Olympics. Museum staff member

Bode Miller’s Olympic Medals are on Temporary Display at the New England Ski Museum in Franconia Notch State Park. All five of his medals are at the Museum--two Silvers from the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and one of each precious medal, gold, silver and bronze from this past winter’s Vancouver Olympics.

Kay Kerr warmly wel- comes visitors, answers questions and provides background information about the medals. The medals are beautiful one- of-a-kind works of art. We learned that the med- als represent snow, the ocean and mountains of See PATENAUDE on 50
