Weekly update as sent to members by David Goldstone Greens:

As communicated last week, we have now started the process of aggressively attacking the thatch in our greens. After several trial runs on the bowling green we decided to attack the thatch at a depth of one inch rather than the half inch as previous planned. Thereafter we decided to attack the front nine first. Marcus operated the Graden one green in front of everyone else. The crew behind firstly lifted the thatch that had come to surface, then operated diesel powered blowers to remove the “bits” still left on the green. After that topdressing was applied and brushed in. In total we applied around twenty tonnes of top dressing. As we

went down further than we originally anticipated we were able to get out on average three quarters of a tonne of thatch per green. The greenstaff were thoroughly professional

throughout the day and we managed to Graden the holes 1 through to 9 as well as the putting green in front of the Waterhole. Our previous thoughts were that recovery may take about three weeks. Subject to weather, we may actually be able to open holes 1 through to 9 this weekend due to the hard work and correct manner in which this operation was carried out. Thereafter we shall start on the next nine holes. Kind regards David Goldstone - Chair MAGC Greens
