OBITUARY
John Carter 1961 - 2006
John Carter, Sales Manager for Dandy’s Topsoil, sadly lost his fight against cancer in December.
John, who was held in the highest regard by all who had the pleasure of meeting him, was laid to rest on Friday 8th December at what was described by many who attended the service of thanksgiving as ‘The best funeral they have ever been to’; not a comment usually associated with attending such a sad event, however, one which John would have been truly proud of.
Over 200 friends and family packed out the service at the Crematorium in Bretby, Derbyshire, which was held as a celebration of John’s life.
Adam Dandy, Director of Dandy’s Topsoil said “As John’s employer I had the great pleasure of working with him over the past two years. John became a great friend to both myself, my family and everyone who he worked with at Dandy’s.”
Bowls England EBA and EWBA vote for a unified body
Following the referendum held in 2005 when the 150,000 members of the English Bowling Association and English Women’s Bowling Association overwhelmingly voted for a Unified Body, progress was arrested by the then Steering Group driven by Sport England of the four flat green bowling associations. This was due to no firm commitment being made by the whole group. The EBA and EWBA in direct response to this referendum have continued talks in the furtherance of a unified body. At a joint meeting held on 17th
October 2006 it was unanimously agreed that the Unification of the two Associations should take place in October 2007.
The EBA has already received the unanimous support of its Executive Committee and have appointed the following representatives to serve on the shadow board: David Mitchell-Gears (Essex), David Tucker (Devon), Richard Clarke (Middlesex) and Howard Pryse (Wiltshire). The EWBA will be appointing their representatives at their next general meeting. Any future board will be seen as
even gender and the representatives would further the interest of the new body for the first eighteen months. A decision to form a Limited Company or to continue with an Association is to be confirmed after which the constitution structure and business plan will be formulated. The new Body will be called Bowls England. The National Championships (ladies and gentlemen) would remain in Leamington Spa and Worthing respectively. The Honorary Chief Executive of the English Women’s Bowling Association – Pauline Biddlecombe said, “It’s a tremendous way forward for our sport. The two Associations are being totally responsible in responding to the wishes of the bowlers in England. Unification and modernisation is the only way to provide an efficient and effective service to gain recognition in the promotion of our sport at all levels.”
