Prestigious Polo Performers
C
oworth Park at Sunninghill, near Ascot in Berkshire, has a reputation as one of the world’s
fi nest polo clubs. It has two state-of- the-art polo grounds and three practice facilities, set among 170 acres of parkland, lakes and woodland.
The turf takes a tremendous pounding
from the horses’ hooves, and keeping it in peak condition is the responsibility of Head Groundsman Ian Graham. With around 100 games of polo being played at Coworth during the season, Ian and his team have a considerable workload, and their equipment fl eet includes no less than eight New Holland tractors. These are two TL70s, two TL100s, a TN55, a TC27, a 16hp GT75 diesel mower plus a dedicated MC model with a mowing deck, all supplied by Oakes Brothers of Reading.
“We chose the New Hollands because of their comfort and user-friendliness,” says Ian. “We really put them through their paces, pulling trailers, mowing, spreading sand on the polo fi elds and fertilizer on the grounds. A particular benefi t is being able to fi t different tyres: we have three different types on
our TL models for specifi c applications, including low ground pressure options.”

pitches two to three times per week. The TN95F-A produces 95hp, but it is about half the weight of similar tractors on the market. We chose it because its lightweight footprint minimises the risk of compaction, and we specifi ed it with turf tyres for the same reason.”
New Holland’s TNF-A series models feature narrow dimensions, which contributes to the weight reduction. They were originally designed for work in orchards and other areas with restricted access, but can be the perfect solution for other professionals.
