t Andrews is revered throughout the world as the Home of Golf. Its heritage stretches back centuries, and a similarly long-term approach has been taken by New Holland in building relationships with key clients such as St Andrews Links Trust. Typifying this is the relationship established over many years with New Holland’s local dealer, Fife Tractors and the Trust. “It’s a very Scottish trait,” says the company’s Alistair Aird, “and it all comes down to people. Over time, customers build up complete trust in the dealer, the equipment and the manufacturer, creating a solid business partnership.”

requirements are extensive. The Links Trust has fi ve 18-hole courses to maintain to the highest standards, including the hallowed Old Course, a nine-hole course. Another 18-hole course on a site south-east of St Andrews will be completed in 2008.

The New Holland fl eet includes no less than 18 tractors. Recent additions include two 40hp TC40D-A models and two 45hp TC45D-A tractors. They were specifi ed with cabs, pickup hitches and turf tyres, and 24 x 24 mechanical creep speed transmission offers great control in low-speed applications like coring and aeration.

Workshop Manager Willie Redpath is delighted with the New Holland machines. “They are straightforward, well-built and reliable. The modern

styling is eye-catching and the cabs are superb, giving a comfortable operating environment with excellent visibility.”

“The tractors are used on all our courses, powering essential equipment like Verti-Drains and overseeders. They pull trailer-loads of bulk materials and are good, dependable workhorses. We have also received excellent backup and

support.” adds Links Superintendent Gordon Moir.

For Alistair Aird, there is simply no other way of doing business. “It’s a bit like the traditional trading relationship with Scottish farmers, integrating with them to identify and meet their needs. A real rapport develops over time between dealer and course management, and each feels personally involved.”

As well as new course construction, the company undertakes refurbishment and maintenance work, ranging from earth moving and drainage, to cultivation and overseeding. As Managing Director Michael O’Leary says, “Because we work to strict time constraints, we depend on reliable machines with the highest work rates.”

“In particular, the New Holland tractors offer a useful range of gears and this facilitates shifting from low to high speeds. It also maximises performance and our productivity, meaning that we meet our deadlines.”
