PLYMOUTH WONDERER
I HAVE been with Plymouth Cricket Club for 10 years now, serving on the committee, as both players rep and webmaster, for 8 of those years.
The entire club is run on a voluntary basis which,
considering the amount of cricket played, is quite astounding. We will have hosted around 100
games of cricket this season with only 25 or 30 of them being on our new ground. The main ground, Peverell Park, is open from around 10.00am through to 11.00pm almost every day of the week. I actually got involved with
grounds work at the age of 13 at Hall Bower Cricket Club in Huddersfield. Everybody, from the youngest member to the oldest, was encouraged to get involved, especially with the end of season renovations. Once you were big enough to actually start rollers you were encouraged to learn to use them as well. I can’t say that I’ve ever really learned Groundsmanship as such - it’s mostly come from paying attention to what the ‘real’ club groundsmen do. The theory of why we do things is
