Pitchcare - making the right impression!
7.5 million page impressions in seven month period
RUNNING an Internet website probably gives us the most accurate statistical information of any type of business. The website generates large amounts of specific data that, once in a while, I trawl through to see how things can be improved upon.
Although we also publish this magazine, which enhances the Pitchcare website, it doesn’t offer the same factual information to us that could be deemed important.
Yes, we know how many magazines are printed and sent out with the Royal Mail, and we do get some comments about the content of each issue. We also receive feedback from companies as to how well their adverts were received. After that we’re left wanting for information.
On the other hand. the website offers a myriad of statistics that truly show members wants and needs.
For instance, in July, we published 71 articles ranging from technical, non-technical to Industry news, amassing 8520 reads. The most read article ‘How successful have your end of season renovations been?’ was read by 586 people.
In February, 73 articles gained 10,804 reads, the most read article being ‘Pre-season rolling: Don’t jump the sun!’ with 607 reads that month. Interestingly, since all articles remain on Pitchcare ad infinitum, a quick check today shows 1465 reads to date.
Membership continues to grow at an increasing rate, with just under 79.5% based in the UK. The USA provides the next biggest group, with around 1000 members. We have recorded members in 107 countries around the world. Below is a table showing new members joining per year, we hope to top 6000 new members by the end of 2006.

As with any traditional database, people move on, companies start up and close down, and the information can quickly become out of date. With the website, we are able to keep our database fresh.
Our web monkey, Alastair, has a series of automated programs running that check email addresses and, if they bounce three times, the member is deleted from the database. This way we make sure that our current numbers are, to within a month, as accurate as they could ever be.
The job pages, weather and used machinery section get a good share of regular visitors but it’s the message boards that attract the most member visits.
I quite often get asked how many hits Pitchcare gets? We haven’t quoted hits for probably three years because they don’t always offer a true representation of fact. For example, if there are pictures on a page then as you access the page all the pictures generate a hit.

Below is a table showing some of our back office statistics for overall use on Pitchcare.
I should point out the following to avoid any confusion. The non-admin user sessions in the top table shows actual unique Pitchcare member sessions on the website. The unique visitors and number of visits represent the total number of member and non-member visits to the website.
Parts of the Pitchcare website are open to all, where you do not need to subscribe to access, the shop is one of these areas.
Just in the last seven months, the Pitchcare website has generated over 20 million hits, but for us the 122,500 unique visits creating a near 7.5 million page impressions is a more substantial figure to work with.
That’s an awful lot of shared knowledge!
