How to Determine the Best Foods for Your Body by Gwenn Bonnell

ith so many food choices available, how do you make


the healthiest choices? Especially when what is healthy for one per- son’s body may cause allergy-like reaction in another person. Understanding we all have


individual nutritional needs and different ways of processing food is a start. Recognizing our bodies are always changing and our nutrition- al needs are never static is the next step. The same food that is good for you one day may cause sensitive reactions the next due to the “rain barrel” effect: sometimes you overfill with a certain substance, the rain barrel overflows, the body can no longer maintain homeostasis, and you begin experiencing reactions to that food. Learning how to listen to your body is


the key to making smart, nutritional food choices. Your body has an inner wisdom, and there are ways to communicate with that wisdom. Chiropractors, nutrition- ists and homeopaths often use “muscle testing” as a way to get feedback from the body. Based on the science of kinesiology, muscle testing is the response of the indi- vidual energy system to the vibrations of certain substances, including food. The body’s nervous system is a 37 mile


long antenna which emanates with frequen- cies that scientific instruments often can’t measure. While MRIs, EEGs, and CAT scans give vital information, for more subtle feed- back most professionals rely on muscle, or energy, testing.

In her book, Energy Medi-


cine, Donna Eden says, “If I had the power to impact the medi- cal profession in just one way, it would be that physicians add energy testing to their diagnos- tic tool kit.” Donna also states that in maintaining health, knowledge is power, and sug- gests using muscle testing to determine what foods, vitamins and supplements either stabilize or stress our bodies. Of course you can’t have


your health care professional by your side every time you are


making food choices. While muscle testing, or energy checking, is usually done with a partner, there are ways you can check your body’s response on your own. A favorite self testing method is the “Sway Test” which you can begin practicing today. In the mid 1970’s, Dr. John Diamond began having clients hold one hand over their Thymus Gland to enhance the results of muscle testing. The Thymus Gland lies just beneath the upper part of the breastbone in the middle of the chest and is the master controller of our life energy. This is where we hold substances during the Sway Test.


The Sway Test


A Self Testing Method for Vitamins, Supple- ments and Food 1) Stand with your feet no more than shoul- der width apart. Either test barefoot or in flat shoes such as sneakers. Heels are not recommended.


2) Place a bit of the food you are testing in one hand and close your fist over it. Hold this hand up to the center of your chest, which is over your thymus gland. Then place your other hand over the first one.


3) State: “This is good for my body.” 4) Become still, centered, close your eyes, take a deep breath, release it and let go.


5) After a few moments you become aware of your body either being pulled forward or falling backwards. When you feel that mo- tion, let your body sway in that direction. If you feel yourself falling forward, your


body is embracing the substance in a positive reaction.

If you feel yourself going backward, away


from what you are testing, your body is repel- ling it in a negative reaction. If you don’t feel a reaction, if you are not


sure what answer your body is giving, or if you feel you are not getting a true reading, then take the following steps: • Perform the test again. Make sure to take a deep breath and clear your head. • Drink a glass of water - your energy system may be dehydrated. • Program your body to go forward for a positive answer and backward for a negative answer. I had to do this when my body started swaying sideways! Simple tell your body “Go forward for a yes answer,” then lean forward. Then say, “Go backward for a no answer,” and lean backward. Then test your body by saying “yes” and


waiting for a response, then saying “no” and waiting for a response. Once your body continu- ally sways forward for “yes” and backward for “no” you can be more assured of a true reading. Remember, since the body is electri-


cal, energetic, physical and metabolic, it is always in a state of flux. What is good for you one day may not be as beneficial the next. And you may overload on certain foods or vitamins, creating a toxic, or allergic, reaction. Therefore, it is best to test before you ingest at various times. You can test food at different stages of processing or cooking. Although raw green beans may test positive, canned or micro waved beans may not be as healthy. Although you can learn the Sway Test


in a few minutes, it may take some practice before you feel comfortable using it. Since this method is always available, requires no instru- ments, and is free, you can practice it regularly with almost any product or food. The more you practice, the more instinctive it becomes. The Sway Test is easy to learn and a


simple way to make healthy food choices. You can teach it to your friends and family, especially your children. Each person’s sys- tem is as unique as their fingerprint. Foods impact each person differently, making nutrition an individual matter. What better way to find out what is good for your body than to use the Sway Test!
