A Perspective on Soy

W

ith many new soy foods on

the market today, from nuts and beans to energy bars and pow- dered drinks, choosing those that are most health- ful can be confusing. Soy has received mixed reviews, even though it has been eaten in Asia for hundreds of generations without reported adverse effects and is a staple in vegetarian kitchens worldwide. In its natural state, the soybean has proved to be high in nutritional value as a non-animal source of essential amino acids, qualifying it as the only complete plant protein. The controversy centers on 20th- century isolation of the soybean’s beneficial compounds, isoflavones, that in their natural state have been found to protect against breast, prostate and colon cancers, menopausal symptoms, heart disease and osteoporosis. Rather than use the whole food, the manufac- tured food industry instead has added these compounds in isolated form to various products.

Concerns arise because the iso- lated plant compounds act differently in the body when they lack the supporting vitamins, minerals and plant substances present in natural whole soy. Also, their amount and concentration in manu- factured foods tend to exceed what is present in whole soy foods. To avoid the risk of overexposure

to isolated soy compounds and still reap soy’s many health benefits, look for organic, non-GMO (genetically modified organism) whole soy prod- ucts. Examples include tofu, tempeh, edamame and whole canned or frozen soy beans, as well as products pro- duced from whole soy, such as soy flour, soy milk, miso and soy sauces like tamari or shoyu.

Cristóvão Brilho, Healer

world’s four greatest paranormals, Cristóvão Brilho, a former Brazilian attorney and author of eight books, cur- rently devotes himself, to bringing the knowledge and application of new healing techniques. Cristóvão offers free healing

C sessions at his institute* in Miami.

Chico Moura: How was the transition from a successful entrepreneur to a full-time spiritual healer? Brilho: I was an attorney in Brazil and vice-president of an Individual Retirement Plan company. As for my spiritual life, I was endowed with the mediumistic faculty at a very young age. Chico Moura: A friend of mine who met you when you were still an attorney in Brazil, told me that he got as cold as ice when he approached you. He said that your mediumship was already highly developed. Brilho: The thing is that I have never been fully aware of that concept. I still don’t have full awareness of that. I think that it is good this way because there is no ego interference. All I know is that when I turned 27 years old, the spiritual demand began to grow very strong, and I had no other choice but dedicate myself to this cause. Chico Moura: Do you live in Brazil or here in Miami? Brilho: My residence is here in Miami, but I stay around 18 days in Miami and 12 days in Brazil, where I attend to people who seek cure in Rio, Sao Paulo, and Jundiaí. Chico Moura: Why Jundiaí? Brilho: Because that was where it all started. Someone spoke of my work to a person who was very sick. One day I was stuck in a traffic jam in Rio, and this person called me. I asked for her name and then performed the long distance healing treatment for her. She had a very serious problem that could never be resolved with conventional medicine. After the treatment, she invited me to travel to Jundiaí. Chico Moura: What about conventional medicine? Brilho: I think that people have to see a doctor and take medication. But, on the other hand, Vibrational Medicine

onsidered by the American magazine “National Examiner” as one of the

can work in conjunc- tion with Conventional Medicine. The ultimate goal is to make the person feel better. If there were better understanding and acceptance of this alternative practice, governments would be able to save a lot of money on medication and hospital beds through the contribution of serious mediumistic or paranormal work. Chico Moura: Do you think that some people remain skeptical even after having been healed? Brilho: I have never worried about that. If you are ill and are cured, that is what matters. There is no need to find out if I was the one to heal you, or if it was the medication you took, or the doctor who treated you. If you are thank- ful to me, I find it to be nice of you, but that is not really important to me! There are too many people who do not believe that we offer free healing sessions every month. Chico Moura: How do you operate with crystals? Brilho: As crystals are today’s greatest tools to channel and balance the energy of the planet, Dr. Fyeer uses them for his work. When you use balance and spiritual knowl- edge, you join two forces. Through the use of crystals you create a real energy healing ability as you magnify the en- ergy. And, when you magnify the energy, you heal it; thus recovering balance as a whole. Through energy healing and balance recovery, it is possible to stop the growth of an illness. Upon keeping up the treatment, it is likely that the illness will regress. In other words: if the illness has stopped growing, it might go away. It is very important to point out that not everyone who is treated is healed. I can never tell whether or not a person will be healed. I am not the one who determines that. It is kind of hard to explain. I have seen unfaithful people heal, but I have also seen faithful people who have never healed. To make it all very clear, once again, I want to point out that I am a paranormal. I am not a doctor, a psychiatrist, nor a psychologist. I just try to assist those who need my help and seek healing for their illnesses.

EXOTIC SUPERFRUIT Mangosteen juice has anti-inflam-

matory properties that could prove to be valuable in preventing the development of heart disease and diabetes in obese patients. A study published in BioMed Central’s open access Nutrition Journal states that

the juice of the exotic superfruit lowers levels of C-reactive pro- tein, a key factor associated with inflammation.
