Supplier Diversity Did you know?

Why do Fortune 500 companies invest in Supplier Diversity target-marketing?

45

Because Supplier Diversity helps to: üImprove corporate image

üIncrease market penetration in diversity markets

üImprove brand positioning üMake more money

Large firms give themselves awards and praise for supplier diversity purchasing while masking the amount they are actually spending with women-owned firms.

Supplier diversity marketing and communications plays a big part in the target marketing initiatives of America’s biggest corporations as these companies seek to present themselves as advocates of women’s causes.

CIO Update comments on a report by The Hackett Group reporting stating, “While business- to-business companies are frequently focused on meeting supplier diversity requirements of customers and/or government contracts, business- to-consumer companies generally focus on the market-value supplier diversity offers, in the form of increasing market penetration in diversity markets, driving social and economic benefits in targeted communities, and improving corporate image.”45

Arguably, the targeting of women to increase market penetration of large corporations into diversity markets, misdirects women from purchasing habits that could better serve to empower our growth and influence, improve our economic position, and help us shape a world that better supports our “own true and substantial happiness.”

Global sourcing is increasing (as a result of intense worldwide competition in the manufacturing industry) – driving down opportunities for U.S. women- owned businesses to participate in supplier diversity supply chain initiatives.

Ending the target-marketing cycle through transparency, knowledge, and choice

To end the cycle of self-serving target- marketing and transform women into influencers rather than the influenced, women must become better educated about the purpose of The Male-Led Economy™ marketing, bring transparency, education and choice to the consumer marketplace, and begin to make purchasing choices that support the growth and strength of women as business and employer market leaders.

As women become focused in their spending with women-owned firms, we elevate the prosperity of and create jobs within women-owned firms, and elevate the stature and influence women have as business leaders within the employer marketplace. This influence brings positive results (through fair pay and promotion, family-friendly work environments) for all. Additionally, as women-owned firms grow, their communities benefit with job growth, lower dependence on government programs and an increased tax base.

Women-Led. Progress for All.
