WITH THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

Police frontman and solo superstar, Sting, will be perform- ing with a 45-piece back-up band (The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra). The singer will reinterpret some of his own hits, “Desert Rose,” as well as a plethora of tunes, such as “Every Breath You Take” and “Roxanne” from his days-gone-by as the aforementioned band’s lead singer.The show starts at 6:30 p.m. at The Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, located at 8808 Irvine Center Dr. in Irvine (The artist formerly known as Gordon Sumner will also be performing at The Hol- lywood Bowl on the previous night). June 9 Diana Ross

The one-and-only Miss Ross brings her brand of diva-ness to L.A. with her “More Today Than Yesterday” concert tour at the Nokia Theatre. The legend will take to the stage for the first time in six years. The Hollywood Bowl is kicking off its Opening Night celebration with its Hall of Fame inductees, which includes: disco queen Donna Summer, The Carpenters (with Richard Carpenter accepting the accolade from famed trumpeter Herb Alpert) and classical pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. The newly anointed Hall of Famers will perform with the

Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, which is being conducted by Thomas Wilkins.The Friday night performances begin at 8:30 p.m. with profits from the night benefiting Music Mat- ters, which is a key element in supporting the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s education programs. Fresh off the release of their latest CD called It’s a Hard Knock Life, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings will take the stage of The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Jone’s sulty vocal style has been compared to the likes of Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin and the group epitomizes the soulful/funk sounds of classic 1960s and 1970s old school music. Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings are known for their phenomenal live performances. All the hits from their recent and fourth release It’s a Hard Knock Life and more from their catalog of music will be performed. Love, Loss, And What I Wore, which began playing

at The Geffen Playhouse in May, features a rotation of actresses fleshing out the roles. Up until June 6, Carol Kane, Natasha Lyonne, Rita Wilson, Caroline Aaron and Tracee Ellis Ross will populate Nora and Delia Ephron’s stories—from their book of the same name—about how certain articles of clothing and accessories can trigger memories that inform the storytelling nature of the production. After their shift is over, and beginning on June 8 through July 3, Rhea Perlman, her daughter Lucy and sitcom staple Conchata Ferrell have been announced to take over some of the roles, while additional castmates will be announced in the coming weeks. The Twelve Dancing Princesses

The Brothers Grimm fairy tale, The Twelve Dancing Prin- cesses, is the centerpiece of the Irvine Barclay Theatre and Cheng Hall’s Spring Showcase, for the Maple Conserva- tory of Dance. A fusion of romance and stunning costumes informs the plotline about magical happenings at an enchanted castle, in which the titular princesses wear out their shoes each and every night, even though they have been forbidden to leave their bedrooms.
