crap foods your organs will be in a state of recovery by switching to cleaner foods like vegetables and fruits. Unfortunately for them, they will not see the negative effect of this diet until around 6 months to a year after initiation. The list of degenerative physical and mental health problems that follow are abundant from vitamin and mineral deficiencies and imbalances, enzyme, organ, gland and musculo-skeletal destruction, to the ever present and universal denial, blaming their cascading health on their previous dietary life. This leads them on a wild goose chase for the hills follow- ing blood draw after blood draw still finding that their cholesterol levels are elevated even though they are abstaining from animal fats entirely. Why? Well, as Lierre explains, referencing every fact the entire way, cholesterol is actually manufactured almost entirely by our own body (around 80 percent). High serum cho- lesterol levels often indicate that the body needs cholesterol to protect itself from high levels of altered, free radical-containing fats (vegetable oils, hydroge- nated fats). Dietary cholesterol plays an important role in maintaining the health of our intestinal wall; this is why vegetarian diets can lead to leaky guy syndrome and other intestinal disorders. Cholesterol is our body’s most abundant antioxidant. It’s also needed by every cell in our body for things like proper signaling and communicating to the central nervous system, and is the key factor in the development of our sex hormones (endocrine system). How many people in our current

society have problems with having sex? This is the most basic of human functions—procreation—and people can’t do it, a lot of people. Just look at how much money pills like Viagra are raking in for the pharmaceutical cartels. Do you honestly think that they do not have scientists working for them who have no idea about the direct correlation between endocrine function and reproductive health? Not at all; they are very aware, but there is no money in finding the cure; there is plenty however in the sustainability of not finding one. This is food for thought on all aspects of our present day medi- cal institutions in America.

In the End

It is impossible to completely sum up what a revo- lutionary book The Vegetarian Myth is in my column. The knowledge provided to me from reading it is truly invaluable, and with that knowledge comes the responsibility to want to pass it on to you, the future reader. It is our responsibility to learn the truths about our foods, our bodies, our minds, our spirits and our planet. We live in a time of a profit based super machine that holds no quarter over humanity, sustainability, equality or anything sentient. In today’s times the real truth is harder to locate and even harder to recognize. I am personally thankful for the work Lierre Keith has done in The Vegetarian Myth, bringing me closer to the painful realities of what human greed has done to the world and its impossible future.

The Healing

Healing can only start with the truth. The Vegetarian

Myth is exactly that. Everyone who breathes air, drinks water and eats food should read this book and learn from its wisdom.
