Volunteering in Health
Volunteers – we need you!
Could you help someone who is visually impaired read their post once week? Could you help someone with their shopping when you go shopping? Could you sit with someone for an hour to give their carer a break? Could you take someone who is alone to a hospital/doctor`s appointment?
IF the answer is yes to any of the above we have people in this area who need your help. We desperately need volunteers to undertake driving, shopping, befriending, organising activities, administration and taking people out. Volunteers make a positive difference to someone’s life. We pay out of pocket expenses, hours to suit you, offer the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and develop services to address local need.
If you are interested in finding out more, contact Tina Graham, Patient Support Manager, Volunteering in Health, Teignmouth Hospital, Mill Lane, Teignmouth, TQ14 9BQ. Tel: 01626 771143 or 01626 772161 or email:

Are you a carer?
Do you look after a family member, a friend or a neighbour on a regular basis? Many people do not consider themselves as a carer. It is a role which they have taken on, without payment, to help someone else. Three out of five people will, at some time, look after someone in a caring capacity.
Anyone can be a carer, including young people who may be looking after a parent, grandparent or sibling and taking on tasks and responsibilities that the person could not be without.
On the last Wednesday of every month from 2pm to 4pm at Bitton House, Bitton Park Road carers can meet in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with other carers. We offer mutual support and advice where carers can take a couple of hours to recharge. We have trips out, art workshops, dancing, information on local services and support such as Carers Link and
Flexible Grants.
Anyone can join regardless of age and the age and needs of the person they care for. To find out more just come along to one of our meetings or contact Tina Graham, Patient Support Manager, Volunteering in Health, Teignmouth Hospital, Mill Lane, TQ14 9BQ. Tel: 01626 771143 or email

Memory Café Do you, or someone you know have problems with your memory? A memory café is somewhere where you can go for advice and support if you or someone you know has short term memory lapses. We meet on the first Thursday of the month 10am – midday at the Woodway Activity Club, The White House, Woodway Road, Teignmouth. Call 01626 771143 or email:

The above services are funded through Teignmouth and Dawlish League of Friends
