WE are an organisation whose aims are fostering good relations with our twin town of Perros Guirec in Brittany in France. The first exchange visit was in 1979 following the signing of our charter, and visits have taken place annually ever since. The charter can be seen in the Mayor’s Parlour in Bitton House. Perros Guirec is a town on the North

Brittany Coast. It has lovely beaches and fantastic rock structures sculpted by the wind, a large harbour, long sandy beaches, and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. It also has excellent sporting and cultural activities. Over the years the association has been

involved in organising many exchanges between sports groups including football, rugby and golf amongst others. We will continue to assist any sporting groups in Teignmouth who wish to participate in exchanges with their opposite organisations in Perros Guirec. We also support young people wishing to

gain work experience. Each year exchanges are organised where students are able to experience each other’s culture by staying with local families and working in their communities. Twinning offers an excellent and

inexpensive introduction to France and to the French way of life. We keep the cost down by accommodating each other’s families. The

hosts ensure that their guests make the most of their stay enabling them to become familiar with French life and customs. Language is not a problem, because there are enough people on each side of the channel who speak both languages to ensure that no one is placed in a situation where they cannot understand or make themselves understood. This year is the 30th anniversary of our twinning and we will be visiting Perros Guirec for five days during May.We will be participating in a wide range of activities including sporting events, visits to spectacular gardens and some of the many islands off the Brittany coast. Each year an art exhibition is held and the location is rotated between the twinned towns of Teignmouth, Perros Guirec, Quintin and Barr, where artists from all over display and sell their works to the public. This year the exhibition will be held in Quintin. Locally, here in Teignmouth, we have a

very active membership engaged in a wide range of activities. We meet regularly and have a great social life. If you are interested in France and meeting like minded people, or perhaps learning to speak another language, then please contact Maggie Lloyd on 776489 or Peter and Sue Maberly on 772285, or www.teigntwin.co.uk
