Teignmouth RNLI Fundraising

THE Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is a registered charity that saves lives at sea. It is independent from Government and depends entirely on donations and voluntarily raised income to fund its lifesaving activities. The Teignmouth RNLI Fundraising Team is part of the Teignmouth Lifeboat Station Management Group and undertakes and oversees RNLI fundraising and sales activity in the local area. Volunteers regularly lend their time and talents to arrange and take part in all kinds of fundraising activities, including fetes, coffee mornings, bric-a-brac and boat jumble sales, raffles, open gardens, sponsored walks, local festivals, musical and other entertainments, street and store collections, and various seasonal and holiday events. These include a fete weekend at the lifeboat station in early August with lifeboat and helicopter display, and the popular Walk-in-the- Sea on Boxing Day that attracts hundreds of participants, many in fancy dress and a crowd of a thousand or more spectators. The fundraising team also

provides trained volunteer attendants to open the boathouse to visitors throughout the main holiday season allowing members of the public to view the lifeboat and find out more about the work of the volunteers and the fascinating history of the institution.

The boathouse is usually open to visitors from Easter until October from

Wednesday to Sunday 10am- 4pm (weather permitting) and at other times when volunteers are available. Come and see the lifeboat close-up and learn about the RNLI. Group visits by arrangement. Volunteers also staff the RNLI souvenir shop at the lifeboat station stocking a range of good value souvenirs, beach toys, quality gifts, stationary, books and clothing. The popular range of RNLI Christmas cards are on sale from the end of May. The shop is open daily from 10am to 4pm from Easter ’til October and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through November and December until Christmas.
