Teignmouth
Den. Support for the skate park was identified at a public consultation process about the future of the Carlton Centre site when other priorities for the town were sought. For the theatre itself a new Project Board was set up with representatives from town, district and county councils and June Green, the chairman of the Teignmouth Community Development Trust. Roger Smith and Liz Lockyer of the Teignmouth Arts Advisory Group are now board members. The board’s task is to create a community, theatre and arts centre with multi-use space suitable for all ages to include dance, library, music and dining. The final design of the building, which went for planning permission in February of this year, is intended to meet as many of the needs of our community which were expressed during the public consultation process as possible. There are now more than 50 projects that have been identified by groups and individuals in which the regeneration group are involved. They include:
● A Community Enterprise Centre for the Teignmouth Community Association at Kingsmeadow
● Further improvements to the Brunswick Street/ George Street area
buildings and facilities. It is also essentially about people: improving the quality of life for all age groups, supporting families, promoting individual skills and self-confidence, improving vocational and academic qualifications, providing more leisure opportunities, supporting business people and so forth. Success of the process, however, is dependent upon the quality and range of partnerships that have developed and we have been very fortunate in Teignmouth in this respect. Our existing partnerships include: Teignmouth
The regeneration process is not just about

Regeneration is vital to the future wellbeing of
● Flood Defence Scheme ● Further enhancements to the Promenade ● Regeneration of the Broadmeadow Business Park, creation of new jobs and restoration of the sports fields
● Extension of the fish quay on the Back Beach ● Restoration of the park at East Cliff and facilities for art and performances

Teignmouth and its surrounding area. It benefits not just the community but also the economy. Community involvement and Partnership arrangements are key elements to achieving success. We are a community organisation whose ‘core’ activities provide an overview of the whole community. We have nine years of experience in community consultation and are well-placed to take a central overseer role in the transference of district council assets (such as the Lido) into community management with the stipulation that each asset is led by a community management committee with representation from appropriate interest groups.
June Green, chairman
