WORKING OUT WITHOUT
a Gym Membership
You do not need to have, nor is it necessary to have, the fancy equipment of
a gym in order to create an awesome workout! Just use your imagination and space. I love to break up my indoor workouts with some park workouts that are a literal breath of fresh air. There is something that is instinctive to want to be out under the blue sky and warm sun. Here in Southern California this is our luxury, so take advantage of it. With friends or by yourself, doing anything outside is reinvigorating to the senses and great for vitamin D production. There are hundreds if not thousands of things you could possibly do as a form of outdoor exercise. Mix it up; try sprinting instead of jogging, swimming instead of hiking, handstand shoulder presses instead of pushups...whatever you do, just mix it up and have fun! If you get injured, run out of ideas, stop making progress, etc., call me up. That’s my job!
Supplementation
Supplementation is a complex issue that is often oversimplified by people with very little or no working
knowledge of vitamins and minerals and biochemical processes in the body—as well as by companies including pharmaceuticals that are out to make financial profits. Supplementation, by its very nature, implies making up for a deficiency. The fact that society today acknowledges this as the norm is a re- flection of our sad state of nutrition and health. I never recommend any supplements aside from specific types of cod-liver oil and probiotics. Cod-liver oil (from reputable sources that use only wild fish caught in unpolluted water ways) is a safe source of vitamin A (retinol), vitamin D, vitamin E, EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid), ALA (Alpha-Linolenic Acid), DPA (Docosapentaenoic Acid); this is a non-synthetic form of these vitamins (A, D, and E) and omega 3s and is readily synthesized appropriately and usable by the body. It is true that because of our deficient state of food and health, vitamin and mineral supplementation is necessary for many people; however, I strongly recommend that if you are going to begin a supplementation program you visit a specialist like a naturapathic doctor, clinical nutritionist or degreed nutritionist who can do a blood panel and see exactly what nutrient is deficient and re-establish optimal levels with food or non-synthetic vitamins. Over 90 percent of all supplements are synthetic and created by pharmaceutical companies; synthetic vitamins have been proven in many unbiased and impartial studies to damage cells and create more nutrient imbalances. The makers of this product (phar- maceutical companies) will always put out misleading information wrapped in “science” to dissuade the public in pursuit of the bottom
line...profit.
