RAIN

RAIN is a critically acclaimed quartet of musicians that look and sound just like the

Beatles! All the music and vocals are performed totally live. Their show covers the Fab Four from the earliest beginnings through the psychedelic late 1960s and their long- haired hippie days. Billed as a multi-dimensional experience, RAIN is a fusion of histori- cal footage and live cameras that zoom in for close-ups. Get ready to sing along with your family and friends because you can trust the person sitting next to you will be! This is two-hours nonstop Beatlemania. RAIN will play all your favorites including “Let It Be,” “Hey Jude,” “My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Come Together” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.” RAIN runs May 14 -16 at the San Diego Civic Theatre. For tickets and more information call 619.570.1100.

MOSCOW

Moscow, with book and lyrics by Nick Salamone and music by Maury R. McIntyre, was

first produced in Los Angeles in 1998 and went on to win the top honor at that year’s Edinburgh Festival. It’s a tale of three gay men, trapped in limbo, who decide to stage a musical production of Chekhov’s The Three Sisters. The men are: Jon, a scholarly play- wright who has lost many loved ones to AIDS and has retreated into cerebral celibacy; Luke, a sexually needy male hustler who lives solely for the next fleshly encounter; and Matt, a shy virgin, who struggles to balance the conflicting urges of love and lust. Uncertain if they are alive or dead, the men soon become emotionally enmeshed. Naturally, romance is rocky in this situation. But, unlike the tormented trio in No Exit, the characters in Moscow rally, recoup and bond. Moscow runs May 6 -30 at the Diversionary Theatre. For tickets and more information call 619.220.0097.

BRIGADOON

Brigadoon is a quaint Scottish village that comes alive only one day every century. Of course, two American

tourists, lost in the Scottish Highlands, stumble upon the village just when it comes to life and a wedding is about to be celebrated. Their arrival has serious implications for the village’s inhabitants and so the plot unfolds. The enchantment of Brigadoon is not the silly story line, but Lerner and Lowe’s hauntingly beautiful score. The show is filled with classics that have been timeless for generations since it opened on Broadway in 1947: “There But For You Go I,” “The Heather On The Hill,” “Almost Like Being In Love” and “Come To Me, Bend to Me.” Brigadoon runs May 28 – 30 at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. For tickets and more information call 1.800.988.4253.

SILENT FILM NIGHT:

CINDERELLA

Americans have a long-standing love affair with this

rags-to-riches story. Featuring Rodgers and Hammerstein’s score, Coronado Playhouse’s production will be filled with enchantment, humor and elegance. But this is NOT Disney’s Cinderella although there is a Prince Charming, a Wicked Stepmother and two ugly sisters. This production takes its cue from the televised version starring Julie Andrews originally presented in 1957. For comedy, magic and a horse- drawn carriage created out of a pumpkin, take a timeless journey back for a colorful, hilarious fairy tale. Cinderella runs now – May 30 at the Coronado Playhouse. For tickets and more information call 619.435.4856.

NOSFERATU

“A Symphony of Horror!” Can you imagine the chills

and thrills that the musical accompaniment to silent films brought to audiences in 1922? The subtle (and not so subtle) clues played in the changing tempo. Scare yourself a bit and see it all onscreen accompa- nied by San Diego Symphony performing the original soundtrack, conducted by film music restoration expert Gillian Anderson. There is a reason Dracula remains ever popular and Nosferatu is the first (and many say, the best) version of the Dracula story on film. This original motion picture was directed by German Expressionist F.W. Murnau and starred the deathly terrifying Max Schreck. Silent Film Night runs May 7-8 at the San Diego

Symphony Hall. For tickets and more information call 619.235.0804.
