Pro Bono Awards
Each year, Gray Plant Mooty honors attorneys whose pro bono efforts represent the values the firm strives to embody. In 2009, the firm paid special tribute to four attorneys who went above and beyond to assist pro bono clients.

Gene Hennig
Throughout his legal career, Gene Hennig has demonstrated a deep commitment to providing pro bono services. For example, Gene is a longtime volunteer and board member with LegalCORPS, a Minnesota organization that connects low-income owners of small businesses and nonprofits with free, high-quality legal services. Because of his longtime expertise in volunteer work, Gene was recently appointed cochair of the Pro Bono committee of the Minnesota State Bar Association Business Section. In addition, in 1987, Gene co-founded the Bethania Kids Foundation, which now supports the needs of over 1,000 destitute children in South India.
Finally, in 2009, Gene was appointed one of Minnesota’s commissioners to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, an organization dedicated to improving the American legal system through the adoption of uniform state legislation.

The following attorneys were honored for their notable contributions to pro bono causes in 2009:
Joy Anderson
Recognized for her pro bono work at
the Hennepin County Housing Court and the Legal Access Point Clinic, as well as her work on behalf of immigrants seeking asylum.
Carl Crosby Lehmann
Recognized for his pro bono employment law efforts and for his work with Jeremiah Program and the Aliveness Project.
Jeremy Johnson
Recognized for his lead role in establishing a program with the Neighborhood Justice Center, allowing Gray Plant Mooty attorneys to provide pro bono criminal defense representation similar to representation available through the public defender’s office.
