Community Service Highlights

United Way Campaign

In a year in which many people faced severe financial hardship, the attorneys and staff at Gray Plant Mooty stepped in to help. In 2009, total contributions from individuals and the Gray Plant Mooty Foundation broke all previous records.

In St. Cloud, attorneys and staff organized a very productive United Way campaign, which included:

Kick-Off Event

To get people in the mood for a “Mardi Gras” theme, jazz music played, beignets and coffee were served, and everyone received a copy ofMaking Choices, an exercise about making basic needs choices. A guest speaker, Steve Bresnahan, Catholic Charities’ executive director, then addressed the group about basic needs in the community.

Raffle and Silent Auction

Items up for bid included a Rice Creek hunting and recreation certificate, smoked pheasant, wine baskets, a handyman gift certificate, professional cleaning certificates, handmade blankets, and food items. The hottest ticket of the evening, however, may have been a dinner for four prepared by three Gray Plant Mooty shareholders.

Meanwhile, the Minneapolis office also participated in a week of activities to raise money for the United Way. Highlights of this week of giving included:

Silent Auction

Attorneys and staff had a full week to view and bid on over 100 donated items. Winners were named at the end of the week.

Live Auction

A number of donated items were auctioned off during the week, including airline ticket vouchers, a Beatles Rock Bank game for the Nintendo Wii, a pair of tickets for a Minnesota Wild home game, and a baseball autographed by Minnesota Twins Hall of Famer Rod Carew.

Ultimately, the record contributions will be used to provide essential services to the least fortunate members of our Twin Cities and Central Minnesota communities.

Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service

In honor of this important community event, attorneys and staff at all three Gray Plant Mooty offices collected over 400 new children’s school reading books. In Minneapolis and Washington, DC, the books were donated to the Everybody Wins! program. In St. Cloud, the donations were made to Anna Marie’s Alliance.
