As I write these words, signs are building that the economy is emerging from the
worst conditions seen since the last Great Depression. Free enterprise, although
battered, is apparently still alive. The transition into the next cycle is gathering
momentum.

With this backdrop Sales and Marketing Executives International (SMEI) is entering
its’ 74th year of existence. We know a thing or two about economic depression,

since the association was founded during the time of the last great one. Our

Like many of your enterprises, SMEI was battered by this recent and steep

by 30% year-on-year. Like your enterprises, we failed to realize hundreds of
