SmEI Arkansas
Promotes the Free
Enterprise System
wayne “Oz” richie, SMEi & SMEi-ar director
SMEI Arkansas believes promoting and practicing Free Enterprise
is the end result of what we stand for. The work and commitment
of the SMEI Arkansas Executive Director, Officers, Board Members
and Volunteers would be nil without a Free Enterprise System. We
live in the same communities together. We trade with each other in
business and interact as friends. Our end result is to “live” for Free
Enterprise and not just promote it.
Supporting the Free Enterprise System has always been a key
element to the founding of SMEI. In fact, SMEI Founding Principle
number five states: “In recognizing that sales and marketing is the
energizing force that drives the competitive marketplace. SMEI will
demonstrate commitment to supporting the free enterprise concept.
SMEI Arkansas believes the use of the key word “concept” instead
of “system” is a very important point. Pertaining to Sales, Marketing
and the Free Enterprise System we have never found one system that
works for everything, in all instances. In fact, we do believe that Free
Enterprise is in fact a “concept”. One that constantly changes as the
world, technology and people in general are changing. We believe
that the only constant in the Universe is Change.
Just what does Free Enterprise mean? One definition of Free
Enterprise found on-line is: “An economic system characterized
by private ownership of property and productive resources, the profit
motive to stimulate production, competition to ensure efficiency,
and the forces of supply and demand to direct the production and
distribution of goods and services”. One could say, “This is a mouth
full”! I have never met a child when asked what they want to do
when they grow up say, “I want to Provide an economic system
characterized by private………….” As children, we think simple.
Have simple dreams and goals. We tend to think of our future as “we
can do and accomplish anything”. Then we grow up. We encounter
the highs and lows of life. We tend to get caught up as a “human
doing”, not a “human being”. I have found that The Free Enterprise
System may slip at this time in our lives. Are we still honoring what
our founding fathers worked for, took risks for and may have paid
the ultimate price to promote Free Enterprise?
As we remember our Independence Day on July 4th, 1776 we believe
it is very important to look back upon this date as also the birth of
