St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival
We San Diegans may not be known for hosting too many insane beer-fests or
dyeing our rivers green, but we still know how to show our shamrock pride! And
thanks to the hard work of the volunteers at the Irish Congress of Southern Califor-
nia (ICSC), we can honestly say that there’s a pot o’ gold at the end of our rainbow—
or in this year’s case, the corner of Sixth and Laurel in Balboa Park. This year’s
theme is Celebrating Children’s Services: Adoption—Fostering—Mentoring. In
addition to the 11:00 a.m. parade and the main festival that starts immediately
after, the ICSC will also be hosting the delightful Miss Colleen Pageant and Dinner
to promote public appreciation and knowledge of Irish history and culture. And
there will be more than a healthy share of culinary culture as you roam the festival
looking for the perfect brew, steamin’ stew or a late-breakfast blaa! Look out for
the live performance stage and pipe players.
The ICSC is a non-profit organization that has served the San Diego area since
1981. On Saturday, March 14, come rain or shine, party it up Celtic-style and help
out a non-profit in need! Visit

San Diego IndieFest V
Why Indie? Because there were too many opinionated kids mistakenly referring
to independent-label rock as “that trendy Indian music.” But before that, Alicia
Champion and Danielle Lo Presti vowed to “empower and enrich the indepen-
dent music scene” in San Diego. And after four previous groundbreaking festivals,
their melodious creation has successfully funneled the area’s talent and exposed
music-buffs to a higher-quality of musicians than what the major labels are willing
to present. The eagerly awaited IndieFest V welcomes the American rock goddess
Juliette Lewis and her latest accompaniment, The New Romantiques. The Licks are
sadly no more, but Lewis has been tight-lipped about hew new group thus far and
promises to “unearth the pixie dust, howl and fire, rhythm and groove to sooth and
ignite.” The motley talent roster also includes MC Flow, Bitter Sober, Veronica May
and the To-Do List, Rhythm and the Method, Saucy Monky, Jane Lui, Social Green,
Slaamd and Adam Joseph. It will be a constant rocking stretch of musical energy
that greets the sober sun at 11:00 a.m. and charms the night owls until 2:00 a.m. Its
