NBS turns over a new leaf:
Michael Maslana interview
Last year we showcased Santa
Clara based NBS as it expand-
ed its EMS facility. Today it has
literally opened a new chapter
with the recent appointment
of president/CEO Michael
Maslalna. Trevor Galbraith
asked him what his future plans
were for NBS.
Q1. Michael, congratulations on your
appointment. Can you tell our readers
something about you?
Sure—I came into this industry in 1983
selling PCBs, and in 1988 I started a rep
company for both PCBs and the EMS
industry called Compserve. In 1996,
this morphed into a virtual turnkey
operation. NBS provided the labor
component and Datest (a test house
we acquired in 2005) provides the test
services and fixturing.
We started in Silicon Valley and
then spread to Asia. Compserve offers
a combination of high technology and
volume purchasing to its clients. Comps-
erve buys the materials, then outsources
the labor to NBS, and Datest brings a
variety of test functions, such as flying
probe, ICT, boundary scan and more.
NBS acquired Compserve and
Datest through a stock swap. The new
company now has over 250 employees.
Q2. What strengths do you think you
will bring to NBS?
Through my unique relationship with
NBS, I will continue Craig Arcuri’s
entrepreneurial spirit. I will chart the
direction of the company and how to
position NBS. I will also preside over the
day-to-day management and implement
new administration systems.
