knowledge winter breaks Active Malta fam trip

Let’s get physical!

Winter brings cooler climes to Malta and the perfect weather to enjoy an active break. Here agents report back from an adrenaline-pumping fam trip with the Malta Tourist Office and TTG

CYCLING.

Tony Woodroffe, operations officer at Saga Holidays, says: “Having chosen ‘pedal power’ as my first optional activity, we met up with Bernard from Malta Outdoors who was to be our leader and guide for the morning. “No gear was needed as we were provided with helmets and good quality Trek bikes. “Starting from the highest point on Gozo, we cycled for two and a half hours, stopping every so often to admire cliff-top views, the limestone quarry and the well-known rock ‘window’ which has been eroded by the sea. “While it rained hard (we were given the option to stop and go back), the weather didn’t dampen our spirits, so we carried on taking in the shoreline, the farm tracks, pathways and the quiet roads. “Although some degree of fitness was helpful for the slightly steeper gradients, the pace was just right for the group.”

SNORKELLING.

Alex Brossler, sales consultant at STA Travel, says: “We made our way down to Mgarr, the port of Gozo, to be greeted by a beautiful sailing boat which took us first to the Blue Lagoon, off the island of Comino, about 25 minutes away.

“Our skipper offered a few safety precau- tions before letting us dive straight into warm, clear waters for a swim. “After a bit of snorkelling and splashing around we set sail once again around the bay where we had another swim stop. This was even better because there were loads more fish to chase around using the snorkel and flippers provided. “We were also treated to a short dingy trip through and around some of the cave windows, which have been carved by the waves over the centuries and are dotted around the island.”

FISHING.

Alex says: “I’ve been deep-sea fishing before but never in the Mediterranean waters so I was really excited.
