NCL nets regional flight deal for 2011
Sophie Griffiths.
AGENTS HAVE welcomed NCL’s launch of a 2011 schedule of regional flights to Copenhagen and Barcelona.
Cruise passengers will be able to fly direct from Newcastle, Gatwick and Belfast to cruises that depart Barcelona, and from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and Heathrow to its new 2011 departure port, Copenhagen. NCL’s partnership with airline
Jet2.com meant agents could already book guests on flights from Manchester and Edinburgh direct to Venice for Jade’s Eastern Mediterranean itineraries. Now Thomas Cook will provide flights from
Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle and Gatwick to Barcelona’s Reus airport for western Mediter- ranean sailings on new ship Epic. Agents located near the chosen airports said
the arrangement would improve their NCL sales. Margaret McCorriston, Barrhead Travel’s cruise marketing assistant, said: “These flights will be a big help. Other cruise lines go from different airports and it can be a nightmare trying to get flights from Scotland, particularly to Barcelona and Copenhagen. “I think this will improve sales, especially in Aberdeen where we have recently opened a new office and are attracting new customers. “It is usually difficult to organise travel for

people coming from Aberdeen – to have direct flights to Copenhagen will be a big help.” Sally Queen, general manager at Dawson &
Sanderson, an agency based in the north-east, said: “Anything that uses Newcastle airport is always good news for us, and any investment in this region is a good thing. It also allows clients to create new possibilities for their holiday, by adding on an extra week in Barcelona, because they know they can save time by flying direct.” Agents will be able to access flight information by calling a contact centre reservation agent, and then advise customers at the time of booking. NCL director of passenger services Sally-Anne Beasley said: “It is important to offer flights from major regional airports. It is a strong selling point for agents and we are sure it will generate leads.”

CRYSTAL CRUISES has added several voyages and destinations to its 2012 cruise collection. Additions to the brochure include a 94-day Epic Islands and Empires Pacific Rim World Cruise through Hawaii, south-east Asia, Russia, Alaska and San Francisco. It will also feature a maiden call in Newcastle, Australia, and will be the first time the line has sailed to South Korea since 1994.
Other new itineraries include Christmas and
New Year cruises in Australia and the Mediter- ranean, expanded Baltic and northern European cruises, and transatlantic cruises from New York
to Dover and Miami to Lisbon. A bigger collection of Mediterranean itineraries, including late autumn options, has also been added, as well as a seven-day voyage during Thanksgiving through the Mexican Riviera. UK sales and marketing director Andy Harmer
said: “The 2012 itineraries promise to be another milestone for Crystal Cruises. “It is exciting to have Crystal Symphony and
Crystal Serenity in European waters for an expanded season.” Agents can access day-by-day itineraries from October 30 on Crystal’s website.
